PHCC Announces Patrick Henry Scholars

 Patrick Henry Community College has named this year’s ten Patrick Henry Scholars. These students receive full tuition coverage for two years at PHCC. They were selected for exhibiting exemplary academic achievement and leadership abilities in high school.

Holly Flippin graduated from Magna Vista High School with a 3.98 GPA. She was active in multiple clubs and associations in high school including representing the Warrior Tech Academy at the Virginia School Board Association.  Flippin is now enrolled in the RN program at PHCC and plans to become a Nurse Practitioner.  

Emelia Guebert graduated from the Carlisle School with a 3.75 GPA. She was involved in multiple committees and programs including serving as the AMVETS Virginia representative to the Spirit of Youth Leadership program. Now, Guebert is studying to become a licensed veterinary technician.

Scotty Hammock graduated from Bassett High School with a 3.50 GPA. He was involved in variety of extra-curricular activities including several different sports. He earned seven varsity athletic letters and an academic letter his senior year. He is studying to become a Nurse Anesthetist.

Hannah Inman graduated from Bassett High School with a 4.10 GPA. She was a member of three of the school’s bands and on several sports teams including a competition dance team at the Dance Studio. She is now enrolled in PHCC’s general studies program and is on track to study Music Therapy at Radford University.

Katherine Martin graduated from Patrick County High School with a 3.51 GPA. In high school, she was involved in multiple religious organizations, athletics teams, and the Girl Scouts. She plans to receive her RN license from PHCC and further her education to become a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner.

Brandon Miller graduated from the Carlisle School with a 3.80 GPA. Miller was a member of the National Honor Society, several athletics teams, and a volunteer with the Fieldale Volunteer Fire Department. He is currently studying Industrial Electronics Technician to become a lineman.

Jaden Penn graduated from Bassett High School with a 3.46 GPA. In addition to being a part of various academic and leadership organizations in high school, he was also a member of a robotics team and won first place in 3D art at the Reynolds Homestead Art Show. Currently, Penn is enrolled in PHCC’s General Studies Visual Arts program.

Cheyenne Shaffer graduated from Magna Vista High School with a 4.06 GPA. She was a member of a plethora of clubs and teams in high school, volunteered in the community, and was active in with the 4H Club Forestry team. When she completes her studies at PHCC, she plans to transfer to Virginia Tech to study Veterinary Medicine.

Sierra Wilson graduated from Magna Vista High School with a 3.95 GPA. Wilson was involved in a variety of clubs in high school including Future Farmers of America and volunteered in multiple places around the community including United Way Smart Beginnings Program. Now Wilson is studying to become a registered nurse.

Heidi Zuniga graduated from Bassett High School with a 3.91 GPA. Zuniga was involved in multiple clubs and honors societies, and athletic teams. She earned academic letters every year in high school. She is now studying to become a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Scholarship applications for the 2018/2019 PH Scholars will open on February 1, 2018 and close on March 31, 2018.
